Whisk your mind the other way--
It's okay for you to stay.
Air contained within a box;
The inside's where each one locks,
To keep out all the threats of hell,
To sit inside, learn not to spell.

Here I am at work
Of course, with nothing to do
So here's some haiku

A Love Poem
This is a love poem.
Here is the beginning.
I hope it doesn't bore you--
Please don't try to sing it.
I enjoy the things you say,
And appreciate your jokes.
And most of what you do is nice,
(Yet still I have some hopes!)
I think you look very pleasant
Even in bright yellow.
All in all I think I like you;
You're a rather grand fellow!
This has been a love poem.
And now it's almost up.
Let's say "artistic understatement"
And end abrup--

Haiku for (Hillary)
White under green shards,
Geometric and random:
What is it? A cheese?
Contamination--
Nuclear or Communist?
Ask a new question.
Oh but my darling,
Magazines are not human!
Buy yourself a clue.
Finals: imminent.
Examinations: too soon.
Kiss leisure adieu.

A Space
Leaf without a tree
Night sky with no Milky Way
There’s something missing...

There’s something missing...

A Diana's Garden of Verse
What to do, where to go
List it all in columns
Capitalize and punctuate
Organize, number, bullet
Bullets in a circle
Bullets in a row
Are they so different?
Yes, but both are definite
Definitely not, I say
Eyes pointing at the sky
If not, then why, I ask
And reassess my feet
A foot hanging by a knee
Perpendicularly lined
Sole getting a look around
Making the moment last
Lastly, firstly, and in between
They line up in heaven
But for two, they're middling
All ambiguous, un-noteworthy
Worthy is the Lamb
What a noble phrase!
Meaning? What meaning?
There's something to it?
It's different than it seems
Or so they've always said
On a cloud or in a book
Clawing at the world
Worldly pleasures...sin?
Oh, please and thank you
Come, let's go have a beer
And reevaluate our relationship
List it all in columns
Capitalize and punctuate
Organize, number, bullet
Bullets in a circle
Bullets in a row
Are they so different?
Yes, but both are definite
Definitely not, I say

For Grandma, 72
So here's a haiku.
Why did I write it for you?
You're seventy-two!
I guess I should say
You're getting wiser each day
(Not to mention gray...)
(But gray's a good shade
Because by God it was made.
...At least it won't fade!)
Why did I write it for you?

I guess I should say
You're getting wiser each day

Sin City
Million flashing lights,
Funds from every orifice,
Love sold for half price.
This is Sin City.
Debauchery Oasis.
Iniquity's Den.
But Josh is here now,
And I want to hear him sing.
So, yay for Vegas!
Funds from every orifice,
Love sold for half price.
This is Sin City.
Debauchery Oasis.
Iniquity's Den.
But Josh is here now,
And I want to hear him sing.
So, yay for Vegas!

Finals Week
My brain hurts like mad.
Quit forcing me to learn things!
What is a square meal?
Quit forcing me to learn things!
What is a square meal?

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch...
The Sevvies are dead--
Or they're pretending right now.
Oh: it's Friday night.
That makes more sense now.
They're just hibernating now.
They don't exist now.
Have they been raptured?
Oh wait: we don't believe that.
Well, I'll join them now.
Or they're pretending right now.
Oh: it's Friday night.
That makes more sense now.
They're just hibernating now.
They don't exist now.
Have they been raptured?
Oh wait: we don't believe that.
Well, I'll join them now.

Just a Thought...
I am exhausted
And my eyelids are drooping.
I think I'll quit school!
And my eyelids are drooping.
I think I'll quit school!

La nuit du neige
The silence of snow-covered night,
The gray of the shadowed white moon,
It looks over all in its sight--
Rien existe sous la lune.
The grasping black tree branches bare,
The sweet scent of icy, soft snow,
The deep blue clouds shift slightly there--
La mer sous le bateau.
The gray of the shadowed white moon,
It looks over all in its sight--
Rien existe sous la lune.
The grasping black tree branches bare,
The sweet scent of icy, soft snow,
The deep blue clouds shift slightly there--
La mer sous le bateau.

My Bed
Sweeping cream shadows
Soft, warm, dark yards of fabric
Pillow-top mattress

A Monday
No product in my hair
Wrapped in fuzzy green chenille
French words slide into the air
Rain drips behind my head
Sunspots on the wall
Muffled airplanes buzz
Birds of Paradise fall
Dizzy and warm

Caution
Loud sounds in the night.
But everyone is asleep...
Call the police, quick!
But everyone is asleep...
Call the police, quick!

Correctement, Monsieur
I am right you know.
I am most always correct.
At least, I think so.
I am most always correct.
At least, I think so.

Ode to Woodwork
There a death knell sounds
In the middle of the wood
Sealing my soul's fate
In the middle of the wood
Sealing my soul's fate

California Time
Oh to go to sleep.
I'm on California time.
And therefore I can't.
I'm on California time.
And therefore I can't.

Ode to a Trader
I love Trader Joe's.
And that's all there is to it.
Could I marry Joe?
And that's all there is to it.
Could I marry Joe?
